An evening of contemporary experimental folk from three celebrated players; Eugene Capper, Charlie Beresford and Pete Marsh
BERESFORD/MARSH
Charlie Beresford (Guitar) and Peter Marsh (Acoustic Slide Guitar) are members of Fourth Page, a band "who can successfully combine elements of folk with improv and make the results sound like a natural blend" (John Eyles)
“Thank heavens there’s music like this that puts your head back where it should be… Truly beautiful.” (Fiona Talkington Late Junction BBC Radio 3)
“Beresford has helped to pioneer a particularly distinctive, and very British, brand of free improvisation that draws inspiration from the landscape and from elements of folk music. The emphasis is on beauty and the creation of atmospheres and moods rather than the sound, fury and bluster of much freely improvised music. It’s an interesting and innovative niche that has drawn a considerable amount of critical acclaim……” (Ian Mann)
EUGENE CAPPER
Eugene's recent works include the solo guitar and vocal album Galargan, a stripped-back exploration of Welsh folk song that garnered a rare 5* review in the Guardian "Eugene’s technical prowess has enabled a diverse array of musical styles to be incorporated into his own".
Encompassing folk, lo-fi, surf and psych, his output is as unpredictable as it is assured. 2015 saw a surge of releases including the overtly experimental and often krautrock-driven ’Inverted Montage Tape’, as well as the ever-so slightly more conventional, yet still unmistakably progressive, ‘Grapefruit Monologue’.
